Pyramid Power; The Secret Energy of the Ancients

The difference between those who read and use this book, and those who just read it and don't even try to use it are amusing. I got this book a while back, and made cardboard models of the Great Pyramid for my own use. I painted them sky blue, for Healing and made my own pyramid water. The plants grew like mad! The pets had vastly increased energy and minded better. I used it on wine and it tasted great! I used it on a sick pet, one the vet said would not live long, and that pet is still alive! When I drink it, I can think better. I don't know how it does that! They don't know how it works, it just does. You need to use it to find out about it. It makes water an elixer, by expanding the molecules. Try it, read the book, and do it. You won't regret it. Tianca

Promises to reveal "the secret energy of the Ancients"..

..but can't deliver.
A full 66 pages, or 6 chapters, of this 200-page volume are wasted with a discussion of the ancient pyramids in Peru, Mexico and Egypt, and the open questions as to their construction and purpose. Another chapter then revisits the well-known esoteric theories of the pyramids, and develops a pseudoscientific theory that can only be characterized as "geometric mysticism".
The remaining 7 chapters then finally discuss what the whole book claims to be about: the energy of pyramids. No hard data, or theories, are offered to support the hypothesis that such an energy exists in the first place, only anecdotal material and personal testimony. At least enough detail is provided so that the reader can try the experiments and make up his/her own mind.
Summary: if your interest in pyramids is purely theoretical in nature, look elsewhere. If, on the other hand, you seek to explore what pyramids can do for you, this book might be of limited usefulness to you.

haven't made my mind yet

I read this book over 10 years ago and re-read it a few months back, I have been experimenting with it, with mix results. I can say it seems the book is right with some of the experiments in it, but the reader should be as objective as possible when making any of those experiments. Sadly I think the books falls short of what people expects from it.

Authentic Work of Yoga Asanas

NOTE: The text of this encyclopedia is in English, but the works referred to and many of the general words used are English transliterations of Sanskrit.

Asanas are the easiest part of the eight limbs of Raja Yoga. They are easier to practice than the rest of Yoga. Their popularity has grown throughout the world in the last 50+ years, and practice of asanas has mistakenly become synonymous with Yoga practice.

As the popularity grew, Yoga centers and schools sprang up fast. But the confusion and misinformation on the subject also grew. Traditional, authentic knowledge was and continues to be neglected, and 'Yoga' has become limited to asana practice.

Practitioners of authentic Yoga are still plenty. This encyclopedia will interest mostly the research-oriented students who are seriously into Yoga Science and Philosophy.

The author, Dr M L Gharote, collected the material for this work for many years. He is a disciple of renowned sage Swami Kuvalayananda. Both the author and the Swami passed before the publication of the book. But a third generation member of the family, Dr Manmath M Gharote managed to work on the details and published it.

The amount of research that has gone into this reference masterpiece is incredible. The lengthy introduction gives the reader a good idea of every aspect of Yoga as well as the work that has gone into this book. Many interesting observations are made throughout (for example, to name one, Yoga was not generally used for general treatment of diseases in the ancient times. It is only in later works like Satkarma Sangraha that yoga practices are used as remedies for certain disorders).

The long 10 page list of disorders that may be alleviated through Yoga practice is impressive. The source is given for each entry. The 12 page Bibliography section is even more grand, listing ancient authentic works consulted by the author. The section of asanas (388 pages), arranged alphabetically, is truly amazing. Each asana has an illustration, the Sanskrit name, and detailed direction/physical technique to do it, and the source(s). Benefits of the asana are given in many cases.

There are nine Appendices: Asanas from Mexican culture with photos of sculptures, Asanas from the Tibetan culture with illustrations, Asanas from Thai postcards with photos, Kon Fong movements of China illustrated and described, Bibliography, Aikapada asanas with pictures, Sahajasana with pictures, and Meanings of the names of asanas.

Such an exhaustive, authentic, 'modern' work is very rare and extremely hard to find.

Randall S. Wells is a behavioral ecologist with the Conservation Biology Department of the Chicago Zoological Society and adjunct associate professor of ocean sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He also serves as director of the Center for Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Research at Mote Marine Laboratory, Sarasota, Florida, where he conducts the world’s longest running study of wild dolphins.

Great beginning overview!

I purchased this book hoping to get a consolidated overview of the characteristics of bottlenose dolphins, and that's exactly what I got! I appreciated the concise descriptions of the dolphin's physical and behavioral adaptations that lead to a better understanding of the animal overall. I would recommend this book to anyone with a genuine interest in dolphins, conservation of the species, or anyone in the position of caring for this animals as a good resource to keep in their library.

Excellent Information

I have read through this book while doing some research on dolphins and marine mammal conservation and must say that this has some information that I could find nowhere else. This book hits on such a large variety of information relating to dolphin biology and conservation that I cannot believe that they fit it all into one book.

Big brains in large bodies

The collaborators who put this book together are dedicated scientists with years of experience in the field. I admire their work. But I find on thing missing from the discussion of brain versus body size. They establish ratios of brain to body size and declare this is one method of measuring the intelligence of the animal, i.e. the larger the brain is in relationship to the body, the smarter the animal is. But they do not explain why a large body needs a large brain. After all, whale sharks of the same size as sperm whales have brains smaller than your fist while the sperm whale brain is six times larger than the human brain. Perhaps it is the large brain which requires the large body. The laws of physics would prohibit a brain developing in a very small body. Necks breaking and cortical sheering would be a problem.
