Yo...Keisha is my home-girl when it comes to Thug Love novels. I love this one just as I loved Chyna Black. I especially couldn't help wondering if I, too, could find me a dude named Black. All I can say is this book will keep you satisfied and interested until the ending. Any novel I can read straight through without putting down is nothing but a Five Star book. While this may have been a very useful tool when originally written, it is for Mathematica 4.1 through 5.0. It will work in in version 9 BUT ONLY AFTER LINE BY LINE CORRECTIONS to the supplied packages. One does learn a lot about Mathematica by doing the corrections but it is not an "out of the box" computational tool.

Very Good Book, but pertains more toward the Prehistoric Age

like I said, good book, but a bit outdated. The author talks about 50 MByte disk drives as being huge and about 5 inch floppy disks. This is like reading Aristotle's physics instead of Newton's. If you use DOS it will help you of course, but ignore most of the talk about hardware. Covers DOS commands very well. Contains interesting trivia about computers too (the life span of a hard drive is about 4 years, unless this is outdated too). To conclude, if you use DOS, it will suite you. Even better seem to be the DOS reference book for Dummies.

Every Page Another Stupid Joke

The concept in the "...for Dummies" series is to write in a friendly style and give the reader some substantial information along the way. What you get in this waste of paper is tons of useless unfunny attempts at humor with some passing references to DOS along the way.

Most of his book is just padding, and you get maybe one useful sentence per page. After reading it for awhile, I started to notice the phrase, "go talk to an expert to get this done..." popping up again and again. Well... I buy a how-to book in order to learn something new. I already know that I can pay to have an expert do just about anything for me. The writer telling me to just "go consult an expert" defeats the reason for buying a how-to book.

Save your money and buy something else.

The dummy books are the "cliff notes" of computing.

have ever laid my brown eyes apon. It has everything from
turning on the computer to editing you configuration files.
It has several jokes about PC's and even some cartoons!
Whether you just got your computer yesterday or you MAKE
computers this book is helpful. In the front it has some
cheat sheets and quick refrence guides that are really
helpful. I have had this book for 2 years now and still
find myself reading it.

-----So even if you don't plan on spending time in DOS
(which you always end up doing anyways) GET THIS BOOK!!!!

The book's main themes are hybrid desktop/Internet applications, threading, rich text handling, Qt's graphics/view architecture, and Qt's model/view architecture (to which four chapters are devoted), although many other topics are covered. Besides each chapter's main subject, lots of other classes, methods, and techniques are used wherever they make sense, to show as many Qt features as possible. So even the most experienced Qt programmer should discover aspects of Qt they weren't aware of, discover new techniques, and be inspired with new ideas.

This is my third solo book--and beyond doubt the most difficult to write. The key dilemma I've faced throughout was respecting the first word of the title: "advanced". Some reader is bound to notice the use of some particular technique and exclaim "oh no, he didn't use a timewarp pointer--how can he call this advanced!". Well, although an expert in the book's subject area it is possible that I really don't know about timewarp pointers. However, it is more likely that I deliberately chose not to use them. My aim is to always show the clearest, simplest, most maintainable code possible, and to always prefer solid Qt best practices over fragile exotica. (For example, in the entire book there is only one use of a member function pointer.) Nonetheless, I think this book will take readers beyond what most other Qt books cover, and I'm confident that many readers will find much to challenge and interest them--as well as lots of practical code and ideas that they can make direct use of in their own Qt programming. Exactly what the title says

An excellent overview of some of the advanced features of QT, such as displaying web pages, playing multimedia, and multi-threaded programming. I've been using QT professionally for a couple of years now, but I still learnt a great deal from this book.

The writing style is friendly and informal, and all the explanatory text is easy to understand.

All of the example programs worked perfectly, with one minor exception: the 'weather tray icon' app did not display properly -- perhaps because I was running Ubuntu 12.04, whereas the app had been tested on Fedora. (I could not, in good conscience, deduct a star from this book's rating because of that: making apps that work on every variant of Linux is an impossible task :) ).

very good book,the only qt book

This book focus on what is essential and important using QT.
For example the model view architecture using desktop widget but also graphical widget,state machine animation framework are very well explain and precise.
The code provided simply work.
I think reader of this book can really save some time during the learning process.It s also a book that you can read close to your qt creator open to experiment each notion explained by Mark.

Well written.

For those who have done C++ GUI programming by Jasmin Blanchette and Mark Summerfield this book will be a nice follow-up. It has the same down-to-earth style and covers topics that were not covered in the former book. Personally, I found very useful QTextDocument examples and topics on concurrency.
