The scope of the text is admirable, and efforts to summarise waste valorization and address dispense hygiene were particularly valuable. If I'm being picky though, the initial chapter on yeast is not written at a level of detail commensurate with the rest of the book. I came away thinking that the main reason to purchase this book is to read the review of waste valorization, but that on its own does not fully justify the hefty $200 price tag.

Small Architectural Wonders Populate Every Page of This Book

I picked this book up thinking it might be a tiny house book, but it is anything but. I found it refreshing, since tiny houses seem to all look alike after a while.

Instead, this is a book that showcases one modern architect after another, focusing on one of his or her small projects. So you see an amazing angular "cabin" on metal stilts, then flip a few pages on to find a small beach house that moves around on skids. There is a public restroom that is breathtaking. Another few pages into the book are sketches and pictures of more and more small, highly designed spaces. This is a fat book replete with many pictures.

Note that this is not a book filled with DIY, rustic spaces and aesthetics. Nothing in this book is cluttered or built with dingy objects. There are a few up-cycled materials used -- wood, shipping containers, things like that -- but in general, the homes in here are clean and new. Everything in this book is incredibly modern, angular, clean, and minimalist. The spaces are bright and immaculate.

As someone who recently built my own house, I found a lot of clever ideas for designing and redesigning the internal spaces of my new home. Several outdoor showers in the book are brilliantly put together and still simple. Of course, the houses and other structures in this book are not cheap -- some surely cost over a million bucks -- but I found many stylistically brilliant ideas in here that I could see you implementing without breaking the bank.

About the Author
Gurudev Shree Chitrabhanu is one of the spiritual leaders of India's four million Jains, he is the first Jain master to come to the United States. He arrived in 1971 accepting the invitation of the Temple of Understanding to address the Spiritual Summit Conference held at Harvard Divinity School. Since then he has lectured throughout the U.S. at universities and preparotory schools. In 1974 he as the keynote speaker at the Quaker Conference on World Peace at Cornell University. He has worked closely with the World Fellowship of Religion, the United Nations and other globally minded organizations. Presently, Gurudev Chitrabhanu is founder, spiritual adviser Center in New York City and to 55 Jain centers thoughout the U.S., Brazil, U.K., Singapore, Japan and India.

Great book!

I am currently studying under one of many Chitrabhanu's students and this is how I was introduced to his teachings and Jain meditation. I absolutely love this book. It is very practical and can be used by both experienced and new meditation practitioners. There is no extra "fluffy" page filling material, just what you need to start meditating. One of the best books on the subject I have ever read.

This book is a practical, no-nonsense approach to Jain meditation. No "instant" cure is offered which rely on secret rituals and mantras for which students and seekers are charged exorbitant fees. Jain meditation is universal, attuned to modern psychology and seeks to encourage us to overcome negativity, to erase and replace influences which have not allowed us to fulfill our potential, to realize what is permanent in ourselves.
